Meet Gaston Rossato of The Barn Miami in Doral

Voyage MIA Posted on September 6, 2018

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaston Rossato.

Gaston, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My father has always been in the car business, so for me it was something I picked up on at a very young age. I worked at his dealer part time as a teenager and untimely full time while going to college (FIU). In 2008 he closed the business due to the general financial crisis going on at the time. I also graduated in 2008. Had a few odd jobs until finally finding full time employment with a major insurance company, working as a claims adjuster. While working as a claims adjuster, I would deal with cars on the side, for passive income, but mostly fun. I knew dealing with classic and exotic cars full time and owning my own business was my ultimate goal. Finally, in 2014 I broke free and started full time with The Barn Miami (which I incorporated in 2013).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business is never a smooth road. You can prepare for what you think is everything, but challenges are always present. My business sells a product, so our main capital is always tied up. Budgeting and managing cash flow is always the biggest challenge. Then you have a lot of the back office work you don’t ever think about when owning your business: insurance, licensing, permits, subscriptions, employees, contracts, and the list goes on and on.

The Barn Miami – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in sales for the specialty car. Classic and exotic cars mainly. We source mostly, low milage, original examples from all over the world. By definition we are car dealer, but that’s exactly what sets us apart. We are much more involved than just a car dealer. We are huge advocates of the automobile and its history and we are continuously promoting and growing the local culture. For instance, we host a weekly cars and coffee gathering in Wynwood that attracts over 50 cars any giving Sunday morning. We also host a monthly “sip and discuss” series at a local brewery, where we have special guests, panelist and presentations educating other car enthusiast on a variety of subjects surrounding the car world. We plan spontaneous rallies, some local and others across the state, just for the sake of driving and good times. Although we do have some charity events lined up. More recently we also started track day events for our clients. It allows them to bring their car to the track and experience a real race car as well. We are active participants in many clubs and we also compete at concours’ with the world’s leading cars.

Generally, the car business and particularly the classic car business has traditionally been run by an older generation. We have been able to use technology to our advantage to share what we do across all the social media platforms, allowing us to reach thousands and create awareness to what we are doing.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We live in one of the most incredible cities in the world, it’s young, vibrant and attracts people from all over the world, because it is the gateway to Europe and Latin America. I think we are just beginning to see what our city really has to offer in the recent years. And with world renowned events and new ones always brewing it proves our city is world class. What I least like about our city is the lack of community, everyone seems to be out and trying to make it on their own instead of creating culture and community. By uniting and creating together, I believe we are unstoppable.
